FILLING THE FRAME

Even the smallest detail can lead to a compelling story. Using candid photography as a creative jump-start, Tira Palmquist will lead us through an exercise, paying keen attention to the surprising or funny details in photographs, and using those observations to build a character, a life, a story.

BODY + BLOOD
by Shannon TL Kearns

As whispers become a roar and threats mount, Joshua stands in front of his congregation plagued by doubts. He knows he is called and yet he can’t help but wonder if it makes a difference. If he can make a difference. If he’s enough. Or if maybe he’s too much of too many things-- transgender man, bartender, priest—too fractured to heal the suffering souls of others. But when, in a moment of chaos, he calls out in despair the answer is clear: there is more to this story.

GOOD ENEMY
by Yilong Liu

Determined to reconnect with his daughter, Howard embarks on a cross-country road trip that forces him to confront his past as a young cop in China during the 1980’s, a period of rapid change in the aftermath of the Cultural Revolution. As he struggles to navigate new challenges brought about by economic reforms and the explosion of western music, literature, and lifestyle that followed, Howard finds himself caught up in an undercover mission that will change the trajectory of his life and set him forever adrift from the world he called home.

THE BODY'S MIDNIGHT
by Tira Palmquist

Determined to put a troubling diagnosis in the rearview mirror, Anne and her husband David embark on the perfect American road trip. They have a map, a destination, an impressive list of cool spots to stop along the way and a timeline that should put them in Minneapolis just in time for the birth of their first grandchild. But what if their perfect plan is merely a distraction from the complicated, ridiculous, occasionally breathtaking and often far messier journey they’d hoped to avoid? Bearing witness to the beauty of things, even as they disappear, Ann and David struggle to come to terms with the unexpected and unavoidable journey of their lives.

CRYING ON TELEVISION
by R. Eric Thomas

Mackenzie and Ellison aren't friends. Well, they aren't Friends, as in Ross, Rachel, et. al. They're real people in a real apartment building with a real need for connection and a real love of television. So they should be friends. Except Mackenzie doesn't actually live in the building--she's plant-sitting--and Ellison doesn't know she exists. But if Mackenzie’s learned anything from television, it’s the transformative power of elaborate hijinks.
